The Joe "Junie" DeLeo Scholarship honors the longtime local resident and baseball legend who has dedicated more than 50 years helping kids play youth baseball in Stamford. DeLeo, a standout left-handed pitcher for Stamford High School and the local American Legion teams in the 1950s, was drafted by the New York Mets and has coached or managed his Clairol Little League team to 17 league championships since 1967.
The annual scholarship is for a selected local high school senior who:
A June 2022 graduating High School Senior
A graduate of Stamford North Little League
An overall high school GPA of 2.5 or better
Acceptance to an accredited college, university, or technical school for the Fall of 2022.
